Five killed in power station explosion
A blast at the Kleen Energy plant in Middletown, Connecticut, has left five people dead and at least 12 injured.

The gas pipe explosion reportedly sent flames and black smoke into the sky and shook houses several miles away.

The Mayor of Middletown said
: "We know that 12 individuals have been injured. Five individuals are known to have lost their lives."

Officials have cautioned that because numerous contractors had staff working on the unfinished power plant, they were unable to account for everyone who had been at the site.

A search and rescue operation is continuing to find any workers who may have been buried in rubble.
