The city still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina five years ago is celebrating its first Super Bowl win in American Football.

The New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts 31-17.

Drew Brees of the Saints, who won the award for Most Valuable Player, said: "We just believed in ourselves. We knew we had an entire city and maybe an entire country behind us. It was all meant to be. It was all destiny."

Five years ago, the Saints stadium became a refuge for people trapped by floodwater. But now, "New Orleans is back and this showed the whole world," said Saints owner Tom Benson.

Darren Sharper concluded: "Everyone knows what the city has gone through. That's what makes it special. They've wanted it for a long time."
