Richard Powell, Roofing Manager for Dow Building Solutions, is used to viewing the world from great heights – since joining the company in 2004, he’s sold enough ROOFMATE SLTM insulation for inverted roofs to cover the Wembley Stadium a massive 440 times!
ROOFMATE SL is a STYROFOAMTM solution designed for insulating inverted roofs, and is favoured by roofing contractors installing heavyweight decks such as reinforced concrete. Its rot resistance also makes it ideal for insulating green roofs, an increasingly familiar sight even amongst the steel and glass of areas such as Canary Wharf.
“Heat loss from flat roofs can be as much as 25% of the total and any improvement in preventing heat loss from such structures has significant benefits for energy saving,” said Richard. “STYROFOAM is ideal as not only does it have the insulating properties required, it’s lightweight and easy to transport, simple to stack in areas where space is limited and has low water absorption, meaning installers find it very practical and user-friendly on site.”
ROOFMATE SL boards are unaffected by the conditions encountered on flat roofs, including wide fluctuations in temperature and repeated freeze/thaw cycles, and have been used in major construction projects such as shopping centres, schools and hospitals for many years. Recent landmark projects using ROOFMATE SL include the regeneration of Union Square in Aberdeen, The Elements retail centre in Livingstone and Downe Hospital in Northern Ireland.
The insulation boards can also be used in Dow’s ROOFMATE MinK System, which reduces the rain water cooling penalty and minimises insulation thicknesses required, a breakthrough which was awarded the Chemical Industry Association’s highest award for innovation in 2007.
