Treo the Labrador wins animals 'Victoria Cross'
Treo, the nine year old black Labrador, has earned the highest military honour for animals, after sniffing out a number of improvised explosive devices  in Afghanistan.

In August 2008, Treo founf an IED that had been carefully concealed by the Taliban at the side of a path. Just a month later he saved another platoon from almost certain casualties, after he uncovered two further explosive devices.

Treo has been rewarded for his efforts with the Dickin medal- the highest honour an animal can achieve.

Now retired, Treo spends his time relaxing and enjoying life in North Luffenham, Rutland.

Sgt Heyhoe, who looks after Treo, said: "Treo's work involves searching for arms and explosives out on the ground to the forefront of the troops. It's very important. We are part and parcel of the search element. We're not the ultimate answer but we are an aid to search."
